In this session, participants will dive into the critical role of eye movements and visual function in sports performance. We will cover the assessment and training of key visual elements such as stereopsis, convergence, accommodation, vestibulo-ocular reflex (VOR), gaze fixation, saccades, pursuits, and optokinetics. Each of these visual functions plays an important role in athletic success, influencing reaction time, spatial awareness, coordination, and focus.

Participants will learn how to assess these eye movements, understand their role in sports, and explore techniques to train them when they are dysfunctional. By integrating these sports vision training methods, practitioners can help athletes improve reaction speed, accuracy, and overall performance.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify and understand key visual functions such as stereopsis, convergence, accommodation, VOR, gaze fixation, saccades, pursuits, and optokinetics.
  2. Learn how to assess these eye movements and their influence on athletic performance.
  3. Explore the role of each visual skill in sports and how deficits can hinder performance.
  4. Implement evidence-based techniques to train and correct dysfunctional eye movements.
  5. Integrate sports vision training into athletic programs to improve reaction time, focus, and coordination.
