Saccades, the rapid eye movements between fixation points, offer a 100 millisecond window into brain health, making them a powerful tool for neurological assessment. In this session, participants will learn to assess both reflex and voluntary saccades, exploring their unique characteristics such as latency, acceleration, velocity, deceleration, amplitude, and accuracy.
We will discuss how abnormalities in these saccadic parameters can reveal dysfunctions in various brain regions, from the brainstem to higher cortical areas. By incorporating saccade assessments into routine neurological evaluations, clinicians can achieve faster, more accurate diagnoses and develop targeted interventions to improve patient outcomes.
